B.A. Journalism

“Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press...” - First Amendment

As a prospective writer and journalist, you will go through a specialized liberal arts educational journey. Wide-ranging interests and curiosity, along with the ability to write clearly and concisely under the pressure of a deadline, are prerequisites for your success. As part of this program, you will experience being a part of the Southern Adventist University newspaper staff as well as producing a newscast and participating in amazing internships.

Often, a journalist becomes particularly well-informed in a specialized area like business, sociology, science, religion, education, health, art, government, or consumer affairs. Choosing a minor in one of these areas could be of great benefit for a successful reporting/writing career.

After completing this amazing program and developing great oral and writing skills, you will be capable of working in different journalism and communication positions, such as:
  • Reporter or Correspondent
  • Copy Editor or Feature Writer
  • Scriptwriter or Speechwriter
  • News Producer or TV/Radio Broadcaster
  • Editor or Technical Writer
If you have a heightened sense of curiosity and love writing, telling stories, taking photos and/or exploring the world around you, this might be the right program for you.
