Job Descriptions
How You Can Help
Hauler
- We-Haul officially runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- We-Haul is a rain or shine event (umbrellas provided).
- Make sure student has room access before moving any belongings into the dorm.
- Carry smaller boxes, hang clothes, lamps, plants, etc.
- Operate handcarts for larger items such as small fridges, computers, large boxes.
- Negotiate steps and stairwells.
- Keep track of handcarts.
- Back entrance of Talge available for moving in.
- Elevator is located in Talge Hall.
Greeter/Door Opener
- We-Haul officially runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- We-Haul is a rain or shine event.
- Greet parents and students as they approach dorms entrances and hold the doors open for them.
- Help haulers by keeping track of handcarts.
- Back entrance of Talge will be available for moving in.
- If the fire alarm goes off, greeters are responsible for removing all door wedges throughout the building; fire marshal will check.
Head Greeter
- We-Haul officially runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- We-Haul is a rain or shine event (umbrellas provided).
- Help set up canopies at 9:00 (Talge and Thatcher).
- Bring lawn chair for yourself.
- Install wedges in hallway doors on each floor.
- Organize any badges and t-shirts.
- Be a welcome face for new students.
- Back entrance of Talge will be available for moving in.
- Say hello to parents/students and instruct greeters/haulers to do the same.
- Keep track of who does and does not help by making notations on schedule (there will be “walk-ups” who will volunteer).
- All students must have ID card encoded for room access before moving belongings into the dorm.
- Pass out any name badges and t-shirts, etc.
- Distribute campus maps as people ask for them (most will already have one by the time they get to the dorm).
- Keep track of the hand carts; greeters should be responsible for returning them to the front for the next person; discourage handing off.
- Water under We-Haul canopies is available for volunteers and campus guests.
- Responsible for removal of all door wedges on each floor at the end of the day; if the fire alarm goes off, greeters are responsible for removing all door wedges throughout the building; fire marshal will check.
Parking Lot Attendant
- Several parking spots at the front lot of each dorm will be reserved with orange cones. These parking spaces are for offloading purposes only and not long-term use on the day of We-Haul.
- As families come into the lot to unpack, remove the cone and allow them to park.
- Return the cone to the space once the vehicle has left.
