Current Opportunities

Help us train our students! Allie Tyman will be teaching Health Assessment I, a class where students are trained on their interactions with patients. We need volunteers to be practice patients for our students. You will be with a different student every 20 minutes, and you can share your personal health history or create a fictitious history for the students to test their knowledge. You can dress comfortably. Exams are non-invasive.

Allie needs volunteers on December 9. If you are available to help the whole time or even if you can just come for a couple hours, we'd love to have your help!

Cheryl Craven needs help hosting MLK Service Day for Southern's students. This is a day when all students and employees are encouraged to serve. Volunteers will be needed on Sunday, January 19 & Monday, January 20. Below are the areas Cheryl needs volunteers:

Sunday, January 19

Day Before Prep | Sunday, 2 p.m.
We need help pulling 1200 t-shirts and placing them out on the stage with signs and stands.

Moving Vehicles | Sunday, 2 p.m.
We need help moving all the vehicles from transportation to the gym. Volunteers will meet at the gym.

Monday, January 20

Service Day Set-Up | 7:30 a.m.
Set up the gym for 1200 student & employee volunteers. Move t-shirts and project signs to gym floor, set up tables for breakfast and set up sign stands and man sign up station and key stations.

Drivers | 8:30 a.m.
Drive a group of students to a project; serve with them (or wait in the car) and drive them back to campus. Drivers will be in a university 12 passenger van, 7 passenger minivan, or 5 passenger car. 
*Breakfast, lunch and a free t-shirt will be provided

Morning Clean-up | 9:15 a.m.
Clean up the food from breakfast, move tables for lunch set up, pull up lawn signs around campus, signs from tables in the cafeteria, inventory and put away leftover t-shirts, take leftover breakfast to Feed My Sheep Food Pantry on campus.

Set Up Lunch | 11 a.m.
Receive the food from 4 vendors, assist with the set up, serve and replenish food as students come back from serving.

Afternoon Clean-up | 1 p.m.
Clean up the leftover lunch and deliver it to the Feed My Sheep Food Pantry on campus, clean up tablecloths, take down tables, empty trash bins, and sweep floor.

The McKee Library needs a volunteer skilled at taking care of plants to water and prune our 40 plants once a week and re-pot them when needed (once or twice a year).

Frequency: Weekly, for 1 hour

Task: Recruiter for Southern at various SDA academies in the Southern Union. We need individual(s) who are passionate about languages, preferable having studies abroad but not required.
We need individual(s) who can go on each one of the recruiting trips, to the various academies, requiring in some cases, an overnight stay. We need to have individual(s) who have a background in languages; because, that individual needs to be able to speak to the importance, meaning and impact of an abroad experience. The Modern Languages Department will provide the promotional materials, and any necessary/relevant training for the individual/s.

Frequency: 5-6 times a year between January & June. Trips can be half a day to as long as 4 days depending on the location.
Perks: Travel expenses will be covered, and gift cards will be given based on the length of the trip.
Desired # of Volunteers: 2

We need an internet-savvy and detail-oriented volunteer to help us occasionally with alumni research to keep our alumni information and database up to date - births, deaths, address changes, etc. For privacy and security, this does need to be done in our office and using our computer.
