For $30, we can install Windows 7 for you. Bring your computer to Information Technology
(second floor of Wright Hall, beneath the Dining Hall). Payment may be made in cash,
or by check or credit card. Tennessee sales tax applies.
Should I get the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Windows 7?
Most computers purchased within the past couple of years can run the 64-bit version,
though there are exceptions. To determine which version to get, we recommend visiting
the link below.
When you come to the screen shown below, if you see EM64T or AMD64 in the instructions field (red box), your computer is 64-bit capable and you should
purchase the 64-bit version of Windows 7.
The advantage of the 64-bit version of Windows is memory capacity. 32-bit operating
systems can utilize up to about 3.3GB of RAM, while with 64-bit versions the amount
of usable RAM is almost limitless. More RAM means that memory intensive applications
will run faster, and you can have numerous programs running at the same time.
