Field Education Requirements

Students wishing to enter field education must meet the following requirements:

1. Complete all prerequisites for Social Work Practicum I SOCW 428 as listed in the Southern Adventist University undergraduate catalog.
2. Achieve a 2.50 overall grade point average.
3. Submit BSW Field Intake form and resume in Tevera. 

Prerequisites for BSW students

SOCW 211 – Introduction to Social Work
SOCW 212 – Social Welfare as an Institution
SOCW 213 – Interview Skills
SOCW 309 – Social Work Practice with Individuals
SOCW 321 – Social Work Practice with Families and Groups
SOCW 322 – Human Behavior and the Social Environment I
SOCW 323 – Human Behavior and the Social Environment II
SOCW 413 – Networking and Career Development

Required Cognates

BIOL 103 – Principles of Biology
BUAD 128 – Personal Finance or
ECON 213 – Survey of Economics (IN-9)
MATH 214 – Statistics (IN-4)
PSYC 122 – General Psychology or
PSYC 128 – Development Psychology (IN-8)

Prerequisites for MSW Foundation students

Student must have completed or register for three of the following courses:

SOCW 509 – Social Work Practice with Individuals and Families
SOCW 514 – Social Work Practice with Groups, Organizations, and Communities
SOCW 511, 512 – Human Behavior and the Social Environment I and II
SOCW 541, 542 – Integration of Faith and Foundation Practice Seminar I and II

Student must complete all the required foundation field readiness assessments at the program’s benchmark level.

Submit MSW Field Intake form and resume in Tevera.

Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.75 to be eligible for field. 

Prerequisites for MSW Advanced students

Student is accepted into Advanced Standing or have completed all foundation-level classes.

Student must complete the field orientation module that includes the advanced field readiness quiz, which requires a 90% for passing. 

Submit a MSW Field Intake form and resume in Tevera. 

Advanced student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to begin field.
