GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS GUIDE
Community Service & Service-Learning
Following Jesus' example, Southern Adventist University encourages students to integrate
their faith and learning. The Christian Service graduation requirement is intended
to help students develop the ability to become contributing members of churches, families,
groups, and communities.
REQUIREMENTS:
Community Service Events — three events, minimum of 3 hours each

- transferring sophomores only need 2
- transferring juniors and seniors only need 1
- associates degree candidates only need 1

EXAMPLES
Some examples from each category include the following:
Community Service
- Southern Serves Day
- Campus-wide MLK Service Day
- Approved Student Organization activities
- SALT Program
Service-Learning
- Service-Learning Classes (SERV2)
- Southern Mission Trips / Vision Trips
- Student Initiated Projects—this option allows students to tailor a project that combines knowledge learned in the classroom along with something that they enjoy doing. Must be pre-approved by the Christian Service Program.
