Ray Hefferlin Physics Endowed Scholarship
The Ray Hefferlin Physics Endowed Scholarship fund was established in 1996 by colleagues and physics department alumni to honor the many years of Dr. Ray Hefferlin's service to Southern Adventist University. It is available to students who have declared physics as a major or minor, who have a 3.0 GPA or above and who are willing to work their way through college. This final requirement was based on the belief that students who were willing to work while in school reduced their reliance on student debt and demonstrated through their work ethic a drive to contribute to their community.
Nearly 30 of Dr. Hefferlin’s friends and colleagues contributed to this endowment which in 2024 was valued over $100,000 and it is still accepting gifts. Students are selected each school year as recipients of this scholarship. After this scholarship’s inception, Dr. Ray Hefferlin continued to serve at Southern until his untimely death in 2015. He gave 62 years to students at Southern and this scholarship continues his legacy.A Legacy Reviewed
