Applying for Funding
When you’re ready to begin writing your request for funding, it is critical to develop
a compelling case for support. The most competitive applications specifically address
the funder’s priorities. We encourage applicants to read the grant guidelines carefully
and respond precisely to the information requested, in the order in which it is requested.
The Foundation Relations Officer should be notified three months before a grant deadline.
Reporting and Stewardship
Stewardship is essential to building and maintaining a strong relationship with funders.
Foundations may require stewardship in the form of narrative and/or financial reports.
The reporting requirements and due dates are often listed in the award letter. Reports
are typically due every six months or one year from the award date.
If your project receives funding, it is imperative to inform the Foundation Relations
Officer within two business days. Please note that it is important to submit grant
reports on time. All reports must be submitted to the Foundation Relations Officer 15 business days prior to the deadline.
Grant reports usually include the following:- Project name, university name, grant number, project start and end dates, and award
amount- A summary of project activities conducted during the grant period- A discussion of outcomes, including successes, challenges, and lessons learned- A description of the impact of the project and funding- An accounting of expenditures
