Southern Advantages

The DNP at Southern is a practical alternative to research-focused doctoral programs. We are preparing nurse practitioners for leadership roles in advanced-practice settings. The program emphasizes advanced clinical practice, research application, and evaluation of practice and care-delivery models. Knowledge and skills are enhanced through practical courses and relevant clinical experiences.


You’ll be qualified

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is designed for nurse practitioners seeking their terminal degree in nursing practice. You will be qualified to practice with full accountability, utilizing a scientific foundation, analyzing best practice, providing ethical leadership, and promoting health to all.  


The BS to DNP has a primary emphasis of the student’s choice and requires either a secondary emphasis or elective hours to meet the 77-hour total.


Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Adult/Gerontology* prepares the nurse practitioner to care for patients with acute, complex, and critical health problems. 

Lifestyle Medicine focuses on wholeness, prevention of disease, and promotion of health and healthy lifestyles – all of which are consistent with
biblical teaching.

BS to DNP/MBA helps students develop a competency in healthcare management. Acceptance into the program is granted by both the Schools
of Nursing and Business.

Nurse Educator prepares nurses for a teaching role through curriculum development, classroom, and clinical education, evaluation, and use of instructional technology.

Primary Care – Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner* prepares
nurse practioners to provide primary nursing care for adults of all ages, families, and communities.

Primary Care – Family Nurse Practitioner* prepares nurse practioners who provide primary nursing care for infants, children, adolescents, adults of all ages, families and communities.

Primary Care – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner* prepares nurse practioners who provide primary mental health care for individuals and families experiencing psychiatric disorders and mental health problems.



*Successful completion of the program satisfies eligibility requirements for certification exam
