Nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains ...

Southern Adventist University was founded in 1892 and today enrolls nearly 3,000 students from across the country and around the world. Whether they are making remarkable discoveries, such as a 3,700-year-old ivory comb engraved with the first known complete, alphabetic sentence, or hearing lectures from notable speakers like investigative journalist Carl Bernstein, these students grow academically and spiritually as they take advantage of the many learning opportunities that Southern provides. Discovered at Tel Lachish in Israel during a 2016 excavation, the comb features the first known complete, alphabetic sentence ever discovered. It was written in the Caananite language, which is the predecessor to all modern alphabets.
